Feature: 5 Affordable Watches Even SNOBS Can’t Hate

Watch snobs are rife in this industry. Some people give serious side-eye to anything powered by a quartz battery. Others sneer at so-called ‘fashion watches’ made by luxury brands better known for their handbags. And then there are those who seem to be indifferent to anything that doesn’t have a £10k+ price tag. Well, we’ve assembled a bunch of affordable watches, below, that will impress the snootiest watch lover, whatever their bugbears.

Tudor Black Bay M79230N-0002

We’ve championed the Tudor Black Bays a lot here and on our YouTube channel so, considering its impressive price point, of course it’s found itself on this list. A handsome timepiece featuring that signature snowflake hand, the Black Bay is Tudor’s most popular model. One that offers the appeal of the Rolex Submariner for way less money, but a watch that’s still a close relative of the Rolex family, nonetheless.

Longines Legend Diver L3.774.4.90.2

The Legend Diver is one of Longines most sought-after watches. Water-resistant to 300m, it competes with dive watch heavyweights like the Omega Seamaster and Rolex's Submariner, although its price tag is friendlier. Costing under £2,000 pre-owned, this is an impressive and very attractive Longines model with a stunning deep-blue gradient dial and tough fabric strap.

Hamilton Khaki Field H70555533

From a respected US-Swiss brand whose watches have been worn by none other than Elvis Presley is this Khaki Field model. A staple within Hamilton’s catalogue, it’s powered by the H-10 automatic calibre which offers up to an impressive 80-hours of power that’ll surely see you through any adventure or terrain, just like the watch was intended for. Available for just £500 RRP, this is a watch that would make a welcome addition to any collection.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 WAZ2113.BA0875

TAG Heuer has divided watch enthusiasts over the years, but there’s no denying the brand has some excellent watches under its belt, the Formula One range among them. This model boasts an understated appeal, one that looks similar to Rolex’s Explorer, with its steel case and bracelet, plus black dial with Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock. Powered by the automatic in-house calibre 5, this model has a 42-hour power reserve. Costing just over £1,000 pre-owned, this is a great piece from TAG’s catalogue.

Seiko 5 Sports SRPD

Utilising volume and technology to cater to an audience that appreciates a fine mechanical watch for a price that’s a bit more forgiving—$350—Seiko has produced a winner with this 5 Sports model. Taking the baton from the discontinued SKX, the SRPD is a dive watch, too, although it isn’t as resistant to the elements. The biggest update, though, is the appearance, which notably offers a peek at the movement—the new calibre 4R36—via the open caseback.
