News: The Glashütte Original PanoInverse Limited Edition Guilloché
Observing a well-made movement never gets old. I’ve even seen people wear their watches reversed, just so they can glance down at their watch’s movement—sort of defeats the purpose of a watch, but hey, who can blame ‘em? The PanoInverse from German brand Glashütte Original solves this problem, allowing its user to observe its beating heart dial side—and if that didn’t sound cool enough, the newest limited edition has guilloché for days.
Including in size—at 42mm—the new limited edition PanoInverse doesn’t differ much from its regular counterparts. It still has the off-centre intersecting small seconds and minute/hour dials—it is a German watch after all—a power reserve, and of course, the dial side balance. While other PanoInverse models do use high-end materials, like gold, this particular model utilises the most luxurious metal of all: platinum.
Other than its swanky 950 platinum build, you might also have noticed a copious amount of guilloché on the dial—replacing the vertical striping of the regular models. The guilloché design was chosen to resemble the pattern of the dome in the Academy of Fine Arts, located in Dresden—and it can be seen on both sides of this watch.
Powering all of this is the manual-winding Calibre 66-09—a movement with a 41-hour power reserve and a 28,800 vph beat rate. As you can see—on both sides of the watch—it also has 31 jewels and a sprinkling of blued screws and gold chatons.
At €45,000, this watch costs more than four times that of its regular steel counterpart—but I’ve seen other limited edition luxury watches command higher prices and offer way less in return. This watch is not only platinum—which drives the price up significantly all by itself—it’s also seen a lot more work done to it and is limited to just 25 pieces. That being the case, €45,000 starts to seem more reasonable, huh?
